Emma has started this thing lately, where she wants to be the boss. A couple of weeks ago I was making Ellie's b-day cake and Emma decides to come into the kitchen and eat some sprinkles. I told her to stop b/c they were for Ellie's cake. She came back a couple minutes later and said, "I want to be the boss." I said, "You can be the boss when you are a mom." And then she said, "I just want to be a kid boss." She is learning and testing the limits of her independence...
Here is a picture of something she did that shows how she wants to be in charge. Sometimes, I put up a piece of paper in the girls room and draw 3 boxes. I tell them if they get 3 smiley faces for helping clean their room, etc. that they will get a treat. But if they get an X for not helping, they will not get the treat. I haven't done this in a couple of weeks...But Emma, out of the blue, goes and gets a piece of paper, writes "M O M" on it, sticks it on the wall (like I do) and draws several boxes. She said, "When you're bad, you get an X!" Later on, I put Ellie in time-out for screaming and Emma got a pen, went in the room, and drew a big X in one of the squares! I thought it was pretty funny, but we had a little chat about Moms and kids and their roles in the family!
